Managing Harvard's Resources

PhotoHarvard Management Company (HMC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Harvard University, was founded in 1974 to manage the University's endowment, pension assets, working capital, and deferred giving accounts. HMC is governed by a board of directors that is appointed by the President and Fellows of Harvard College, known as the Corporation. The HMC board includes four ex officio members: the treasurer of the University, who serves as the Chair, the president of the University, the University's vice president of finance, and the president of HMC. The remaining board members are investment professionals with extensive experience in managing institutional assets. The HMC board meets quarterly. Among its duties are setting investment policy, establishing risk parameters, approving significant new investment initiatives, monitoring performance, and overseeing the compensation program.

Jane Mendillo is President and CEO of the Management Company and Jennifer Pline is the Chief Trusts and Gifts Officer.
